What Can Magic Teach Kids About Science?
If you’ve got kids or you’re around them, you’ve likely noticed that they are surrounded by magic—from Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, to the Terces Society and the Pyrrhia dragons. There is absolutely no shortage of wands, curses, spells, fantastical beasts, alchemy, and potions in kids’ worlds. But this is just the stuff of stories, right? None of it is actually real!
While that’s definitely the case when it comes to dragons (I think) but as for the other stuff? It turns out that a lot of what we think of as “magic” might actually have a connection to science. Intrigued? Interested in learning more? May I recommend Do You Believe In Magic?
It’s about all the different ways that magic has been part of our history and is at the root of many of our sciences, including chemistry and astronomy.
It’s aimed at kids ages 9-13, with the goal of helping them become more scientifically literate, while also having some fun along the way.
It includes information from interviews with scientists and magicians, and is extensively researched with a thorough bibliography, index, and glossary.
